- Stevie Ray Vaughan
Memorial Schoarship Fund -
Established in 1993 at the Communities Foundation of
Texas, the Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial Scholarship Fund was formed to
assist students who demonstrate a strong interest and ability in music
to pursue a college education. Greiner Middle School, a Dallas
Independent School District magnet school for music, was selected as the
target school for the awards. An inner-city school, Greiner is located
in the heart of Oak Cliff, where Stevie spent his childhood. Students
are awarded the scholarships at the end of their 8th grade year, and
upon graduating from High School students may use the scholarships to
attend the college or university of their choice. The teachers recommend
candidates for the scholarship, and each candidate must have a good
attendance record and good grades.
Martha Vaughan, Stevie's mother, is an active participant in the
Scholarship Fund and attends the annual scholarship auditions at
Greiner Middle School and helps to select the award recipients. Each
year Mrs. Vaughan has matched the donation from the Ride to the
Scholarship Fund.
To date, 159 S.R.V. Scholarships have been awarded
to music students at Greiner Middle School.
